Do you think that leaders are born? I have seen many people who weren’t good at the beginning. But with time, they grew to become great leaders.

People follow leaders because they trust and respect their decisions. And it’s not easy for a new person to win the trust of others.

There are certain traits that are essential for good leaders. And I have seen many people who have what it takes to be a great leaders. But they hadn’t discovered their potential yet.

So here are some signs of great leadership in a newbie:

1. Team Collaborator

There is a famous quote from Marshall Goldsmith, “Successful people become great leaders when they learn to shift the focus from themselves to others.”

In a team, people with different ideas and skills work together. As a team leader, you need to be interactive and coordinate with other team members.

Moreover, a leader should be a good listener. Instead of having a unilateral perspective, a leader should care about the opinions of other team members before making any decisions. By doing so, a leader can encourage the participation of others.

2. Great Motivator

At a certain point, someone might need some motivation to encourage them to reach their goal. So a leader needs to possess motivational traits. Being a great motivator, a leader can easily communicate and encourage their team members to put more effort into achieving goals.

3. Good Communicator

A leader defines the vision, goals, and plans for their team members. Being a skilled communicator is a huge advantage for someone who wants to be a great leader.

Even someone who has a vision and objectives can’t execute their plan unless they have good communication with their team members. So effective communication is essential for becoming a good leader.

4. An Influencer

Influential people can inspire others. People often follow such influencers as their role models. Although leadership and influence aren’t the same, influence can be considered a leadership quality.

Just being influential won’t be enough for anyone to be a great leader. An influencer also needs empathy, direction, and competitiveness.

5. Empathetic

A leader should try to understand their colleague’s issues. It allows the leader to connect with the feelings of others. Empathy isn’t just about being a nice person. It’s a way to develop respect and trust.

From that, we can understand that a leader should facilitate a great social environment to bring more productivity and happiness to the workplace.

6. Accountable

“A good leader takes little more than his share of the blame and a little less than his share of the credit.” That’s a quote by Mr. Arnold Henry Glasow. I totally agree with this sentiment.

A strong leader should always stand together and always be accountable for both the team’s successes and failures. Being a responsible person, a leader should put their team in front. They should also be ready to take responsibility for issues when necessary.

7. Multitasking

A leader with multitasking abilities can govern multiple sections of work together. Thanks to technology, it has become easier for managers to handle different sections of the team using a single monitoring solution.

There are many monitoring solutions available, like EmpMonitor, Hubstaff, Kickidler, and Teramind. This way, leaders can assign and manage multiple tasks at the same time.

8. Confident

To lead from the front, a leader needs to be confident. To bring out the best in your team, you need to make others believe in you. There is a saying -“Fake it till you make it.” It shows that confidence isn’t something you can act on for a long time, as people around you will notice that.

9. Solution Seeker

A leader should have good problem-solving capabilities. There is always a possibility of hitting walls. In such a case, a leader needs to come up with intact solutions to cross those barriers.

A solution seeker can work to overcome any issue. They always try to learn new things and find the right explanation for puzzles. People with such a mindset can have a better chance of becoming good leaders in the future.

Wrapping Up

It’s not good to judge someone’s capabilities based on a few factors only. A person with those skills can easily interact with their team to overcome any situation. Even a newbie with such characteristics and mindset can become a great leader in the future.

Are there some leadership traits that have been left behind? If you have something in mind, let me know in the comments.
